Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: Kesselring's assessment of the situation in Tunisia on November 28, including probable Allied objectives and Axis intentions - the report includes reference to Axis forces knocking out 30 Allied tanks and to their intention to hold the Bizerta and Tunis bridgeheads; a query from the Prime Minister (PM) to C on the accuracy of intercepts and a reply by C; that the 10th Panzer Division is to attack Allied forces west of Tunis at dawn on December 1; that the Axis supply staffs at Bizerta and Tunis were ordered by Rome to take over [French] artillary positions, on November 24; that Kesselring orders vigilance against any Allied landings, on November 30; the German Navy in Tunis report Allied tanks to be south west of Mateur; that the Italians in Tripolitania refuse a German demand for Italian motor transport, on November 28; on the location of the Africa Corps on November 29; that a major British attack is now not expected in the immediate future; that the Germans are recalling fighting personnel to the Agheila front, on November 30; that Hitler orders all Panzer Army fighting personnel to move to the front; that all personnel of the 164th Division with arms are moving to the front, on November 29; a German Air Force (GAF) report for November 30 and their plans for December 1; that the Germans have received 30,000 anti-personnel mines for the Marsa El Brega position; that the GAF in Libya had only 3-4 days' worth of fuel remaining as at November 30, and request daily supply flights from December 1 to Castel Benito; of German tank deliveries from Tripoli harbour, on November 29; on North Africa: a German intelligence summary for November 30, including an Allied air attack on Tripoli; and that twenty-nine Junkers-52s left Naples for Brindisi on November 29; that Rommel orders a report for Goering by December 1 on the supply situation in Tripoli since November 20; that artillery at Bizerta is to be re-positioned to prevent the sailing of [French] destroyers; and a CX agent's report on Tunisia for November 30 (an extract); on France: that the Italian Navy are to take over the defence of Toulon on November 29; and on the Mediterranean: that the German secret service in Prague have acquired information that the British are to carry out landings in Greece, Italy and Spain on about December 5.
