Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on France: of the German order of battle for the south coast of France on November 26; on North Africa: on the combat situation in the Tunis area as of November 26; that Kesselring demands that the Tunisian authorities immediately unload all ships bringing the 10 Panzer Division to North Africa as the division was urgently required by the 90th Corps for combat operations; of an Italian request to transfer an Italian fighter group from Aouina to Bizerta on November 27; that the Allied build up at Gafsa causes German concern over their forces in the Gabes area, on November 27; that German air and ground reinforcements are to be sent to Gabes from November 28; a German intelligence report on combat operations throughout North Africa; a report for Tunisia from November 27; that the 90th Corps is moving up to attack, early on November 28; that the German Air Force (GAF) in Tunisia is to be withdrawn overnight on November 27/28 to Pantelleria or Trapani; a Panzer Army report for November 27; of an expected large-scale Allied attack against Mersa El Brega on or about November 30; that a German unit is to be withdrawn from the front and sent to Tripoli, on November 27; and that Rommel is only able to provide local protection for Tripoli on November 26, because Berlin has ordered him to place all of his troops on the Eastern Front; on the Russian Front: of the 4th Air Fleet's combat instructions for November 28, including to support the defensive battle at the bridgehead over the Don and to keep Russian forces from advancing to the Kotelnikowo area; and a report for November 27 in the central area involving German, Italian, Romanian and Hungarian forces; and on North Africa: of a message from Kesselring to Nehring at Tunis on November 25 referring to Hitler's suggestion that the use of Tiger tanks would turn the tide of battle in the Germans' favour.
