Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that Kesselring considers the Bizerta - Tunis railway to be indispensable for purposes of supply, on November 26; from the German secret service in Vichy on November 27, on the occupation of Toulon and German seizure of the French fleet; on the German disarming of unreliable French army and air force personnel; that Hitler suggests the forming of a new French Army loyal to Petain; and that the French merchant fleet has been taken over by the Germans for supplying Axis forces in North Africa; from the Japanese acting ambassador in Rome, a summary of feelings in Italy as at November 20 following U.S. Army landings in North Africa on November 8; from the Japanese minister in Budapest, giving a Hungarian assessment of the current war situation as at November 20 with speculation on future developments; from the Japanese minister in Berne, a report from an Italian diplomatic source who was returning from a visit to Berlin, on November 23; and from the Turkish ambassador in Vichy on the war situation, including 17 German divisions being deployed into a formerly unoccupied area of France.
