Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: four agent reports on Tunisia from November 23 (extracts); on details of logistic support for the German Air Force (GAF) and the Panzer Army, on November 22, with reference to a new Tunis-Gabes railway; that Jewish prisoners are to be assembled by the SS and used to unload ships in ports, on November 22; that Bizerta harbour is congested with ships and discharged cargo and is considered by GAF Tunis to be in great danger from an Allied air attack, on November 23; that Kesselring is concerned at the build up of supplies at Tripoli, and orders troops and transport to clear the area, on November 23; that two merchant ships had been sunk in Bizerta harbour by the evening of November 23; that GAF Tunisia orders all the airfields in its region to be either made completely secure or destroyed, on November 22; that Kesselring orders all available forces to be ready to operate on the Tunisian Front in a coming decisive defensive battle, on November 22; that reinforcements are on their way; that GAF Tunisia is to be responsible for the protection against Allied air attack of Tunis and Bizerta harbours; that the GAF claims to have destroyed forty Allied aircraft on the ground during attacks against Souk El Arba airfield, on November 22; of Axis flight plans for the night of November 23/24, including attacks against a British convoy, ships in Algiers and the airfield at Bone, while the Italian air force is to attack Malta; that the GAF were considering the occupation of Kairouane airfield on November 24 but it was found to be occupied by U.S. forces; a GAF situation report for November 23; of vessel unloading details from Bizerta, for November 23; that the German 164th Division is to move to the Nofilia area from November 24; on details of units that are ready in Italy to move to Tunis, on November 18; of a German air/ground forces conference in Tunis on November 24; a GAF report for November 22; that elements of the 164th Division on Crete have had no contact with their parent unit since October 31; a GAF situation report for November 23; that British forces are moving forward towards Agedabia; that the Panzer Army's battle HQ is 4 km west of Agheila, as of November 23; that Cavallero and Von Rintelen are flying from Italy to Libya for a conference with Rommel and Kesselring, on November 23; on the Mediterranean: that defensive systems in the Balearic Islands are to fire against Allied aircraft but not Axis aircraft, on November 23; and on the Russian Front: that Hitler orders German support for embattled Romanian divisions, on November 22.
