Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the 10th Panzer Division is located at Marseilles, and expected to arrive at Tunis on November 23, while other elements are to arrive at Bizerta; that the German Air Force (GAF) are aware from a German agent's report that the RAF intended to mine the French Mediterranean coast, the coast of Corsica and Spanish Mediterranean harbours, and planned to bombard Toulon from the sea and air; that the GAF are to escort a very important convoy expected to arrive in Bizerta on November 23; that two supply ships are expected at Tripoli on November 22; that the French are supplying the Axis with 600,000 tons of merchant shipping, with German detachments to be on board for security purposes, as of November 23; Naval Headlines, covering German and Italian activity; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, relating Spanish views on the war situation and Spain's intention to remain neutral, on November 16; from the Japanese minister in Berne, on the war situation following a recent visit to Berlin, and on German and Japanese attitudes to relations with the Soviet Union, on November 18; from the Japanese chargé in Ankara, describing a discussion with the Italian military attaché on a plot to replace the present Turkish government with a pro-British regime, on November 18; from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy on Franco-German relations, on November 19; from the German air attaché in Madrid, forwarding details of Spanish airfields being equipped for night operations, on November 20; on North Africa/the Mediterranean: that the Germans are negotiating for contingency use of the Balearic Islands and Spanish seaplane bases for Dornier 24 operations, on November 22; and that Italian fighters are to escort two destroyers en route from Cagliari to Bizerta, on November 20.
