This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean: that arrangements are being made for demolitions in Benghazi on November 17; of the results of an Allied air raid on Magrun; a German Army intelligence department report for November 16, which includes identifications of U.S. and U.K. commanders and units; the mission of Platon from Pétain to Esteva to join the Axis against the Allies; Esteva's assurances of loyalty and Platon's opinion that the French would go over to the Allies; Darlan's assumption of control after Pétain and the appointment of Giraud as Commander in Chief (CinC) for North Africa; orders for French troops to join the battle against the Axis; Pétain's condemnation of Darlan and Giraud; the rumoured formation of Free French units in Morocco; and the appointment of General Yaguee Blanco as Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spanish 10th Army Corps in Melilla; on Tunisia: that the German Air Force (GAF) have taken possession of Gabes airfield on November 18; and Kesselring's orders for the disposition of German, Italian and French troops in Tunisia on November 17.
