Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: Rommel's summary of the losses incurred in the retreat from Alamein, on November 15; and that the Panzer Army is unable to counter-attack because of a fuel shortage; Naval Headlines, covering that the Nuernberg is to leave Soergulen en route to Trondheim, on November 17; that the Koeln is exercising in the Alta Fjord; and that the Italian tanker Giordani was sunk en route to Tripoli; this file also includes messages from the Chinese military attaché in Berne, on the situation in Europe following the U.S. landings in North Africa, and regarding the possibility of a German attack on Turkey; from the Greek chargé in Kuibyshev, on a discussion with a representative of the fighting French on North African operations on November 15; from the Japanese minister in Sofia, that Bulgaria is ready for a war with Turkey, as of November 11; from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy, concerning the French attitude to the Axis, on November 13; and from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, giving Italian views on the situation in North Africa, France and Spain, on November 14.
