This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean: that Gauleiter Kaufmann was made responsible for the acquisition of shipping space on November 14; from the German naval liaison officer in Sete, on a visit to the French Admiralty representative, on November 16; on Germany: that railway rolling stock is under strain, and that trucks not essential for Eastern Europe are to be returned, on November 13; on Tunisia: a German report of Platon's return to Vichy from a mission in Tunisia on November 17, with an indication that the French commander in Tunisia, General Barre, had gone over to the Allies; a report of landings of German and Italian troops in Tunis and Bizerta; and that U.S. armoured formations are crossing the Tunisian border from Algeria.
