Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the German Air Force (GAF) are expecting the French to honour their supply commitments at an undisclosed location on November 10; that the Germans are withdrawing and fighting a rearguard action, are short of fuel and ammunition and are expecting the Allies to attack Tobruk, on November 10; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on Ribbentrop's assessment of the war in North Africa and the Mediterranean, as of November 9; from the Japanese Foreign Minister in Tokyo, a message to the ambassador in Berlin regarding common policy by Japan, Germany and Italy on the treatment of PoWs and aliens, on October 26; from the Portuguese minister in Ankara, on anxiety in Turkey about the future progress of the war and the spread of communism if Germany is defeated, on November 9; from the Bulgarian minister in Budapest, on concern over the progress of the war, as of November 9; and from the Japanese minister in Sofia, a German assessment of the progress of the war in North Africa and Russia as at November 5.
