Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean: of the transfer of aircraft from the 10th Air Corps to the 2nd Air Corps on November 7; on North Africa: regarding the defence of Tobruk, on November 7; that the Germans are fighting a rearguard action 50 km north of Sidi Barrani; on orders for the construction of trains so as to minimise the risk of loss; that German and Italian aircraft are en route for Tobruk carrying fuel and oil instead of guns on November 7; that the Sollum Pass is blocked by motor transport concentrations; that all unnecessary unloading gear is to be moved westwards for safety; and that German reinforcements were flown to Crete on November 7; on Morocco: reports from Oran on November 8, noting Allied landings at Safi, Fedahla and Mehdia, and counter attacks at Fedahla; a German agent in Alicante reports French ships moving south on November 7; a German secret service report on arrivals in Cyprus, and Allied activities in Haifa, Syria and Beirut, on November 6; Naval Headlines, covering Allied landings in French North Africa, and that Mersa Matruh was evacuated on November 7; that Admiral Darlan is believed to be in Algiers, as of November 6; on French North Africa: a report from Casablanca of French ships being sunk or damaged on November 8; that French ships were bombarded and one ran aground in the Casablanca harbour entrance; that an Allied bridgehead 5 km square has been established in Fedhala; and that French convoys have been ordered to sail to Mazagan, on November 8.
