Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that Mersa Matruh is under attack, with German and Italian forces withdrawing, hampered by rain that has softened the ground; that the Germans and Italians are destroying railway installations and watering points, and are doubtful whether the Sollum-Halfaya front is sustainable; and of sea action off Casablanca; this file also includes reports of a Japanese proposal to Germany regarding the treatment of prisoners on October 26; and from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, describing a discussion on the treatment of prisoners, on October 28.
