Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: on the establishment of a new air base at Tobruk on November 6; of the priority list for targets in an Allied convoy on November 7; of an enquiry as to the capacity of Tobruk harbour to land heavy tanks, on November 4; that 500 small craft were reported 25 km north of Mersa Matruh, on November 6; a German naval assessment of the position of the Gibraltar convoy; that shipping to Tobruk and the transfer of personnel and stores from Italy to Benghazi are suspended as of November 7; and a German naval assessment that the concentration of Allied forces in Palestine, Syria and Cyprus is related to the offensive in Egypt, on November 6.
