Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the Panzer Army is to make a general withdrawal on the night of November 2-3; that the German Air Force (GAF) must move their aerodromes in concert; of a British tank break-though, and fierce fighting, with all reserves committed; that the Panzer Army consider the situation to be extremely threatening, as of November 2; on North Africa: that Kesselring asks why GAF fighters in Tobruk did not protect the Zara convoy, on November 2; that GAF headquarters withdraws, with signal stations being given up, on November 2; GAF HQ reports the situation to be very serious, and HQs are to withdraw, on November 3; that a tanker is to go to Benghazi rather than Tobruk to avoid being sunk, on November 1; that Admiral Darlan warns the Germans of a British thrust from the south, on October 30; the text of Rommel's annihilation forecast, signalled to Alexander, on November 3; a report of a British force in Gibraltar ready for an attack on Dakar and Casablanca, on October 30; of arrangements for supplying a smoke unit to the Panzer Army on November 5 or 6; of a decision to send ships to Benghazi rather than Tobruk on November 1; Italian information on an intended Allied landing west of Mersa Matruh on the night of November 2-3; and that the Germans request the immediate supply of ammunition by Italian forces, on November 2.
