Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the German Air Force's (GAF's) situation is now less tense because of supplies of fuel and ammunition being received; that an anti-tank GAF unit is to deploy from Poland to North Africa on October 30; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, that the Soviets are to launch an offensive, and if it fails before the Allies open a second front, the Soviets will seek peace; and on rumours of a developing Anglo-U.S. offensive in Africa, on October 26; from the Portuguese minister in Angora, that Turkey is convinced that Germany will lose the war through exhaustion as in 1918, as of October 26/27; from the French ambassador in Ankara, giving a summary of the situation in Russia, as of October 24 (in French); from the Spanish ambassador in London, on VIP visits on October 26; on North Africa: that 50% of ammunition types are in short supply as of October 29; of an urgent need for hospital ship beds at Matruh and Derna on October 29; that GAF crews are to be sent to collect transport aircraft from Germany, on October 29; that Hitler orders that the GAF may not claim successes by escorting fighters against Allied fighters on days when GAF bombers are lost to Allied fighters over Malta; of an Allied air attack against Maleme during the night of October 29/30; that submarines are to take ammunition to North African ports and a supply airlift is to be augmented by the introduction of civil aircraft, on October 29; that a British column is advancing on Mersa Matruh, on October 29; that the German Navy are transferring mines and barrage gear from Matruh to Derna or Benghazi, on October 29; that the German 90th Light Division is to withdraw on the northern sector, on October 29/30; of GAF tasks for October 31, with the first priority being convoy escorts; and an intelligence report on a new U.S. tank now in the area.
