Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: Naval Headlines, covering Axis shipping for North Africa, and Italian submarines in the Black Sea; this file also includes messages from the Japanese minister in Madrid, giving U.S. views on the war situation, from September 22; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on views given to Ribbentrop for the successful prosecution of the war by the Axis, on September 17; on the need to treat information from Hitler and Ribbentrop with strict secrecy, on September 22; and that Germany is unable to help Japan with steel and shipping, on September 23; from the Japanese minister in the Vatican, describing the U.S. attitude to peace initiatives, on September 24; and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon, on the Japanese reaction to information about peace between Germany and the Soviet Union, on September 25.
