Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a Panzer Army report for September 24, describing supply problems; on the Russian fronts: a report for September 24; Naval Headlines, covering Arctic convoys, and shipping bound for North Africa; this file also includes messages from the Saudi Arabian minister in Vichy, forwarding Swiss intelligence on the poor situation in Germany, on September 21; from the Italian Legation in Lisbon, on the Japanese policy towards the Soviet Union, as of September 22; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on German embarrassment at the peace rumours emanating from Shanghai, on September 21; and on Ribbentrop's views on the war situation, as of September 21; from the Turkish minister in Cairo on the British attitude to Egypt, as of September 21; and from the Turkish Embassy in Moscow, about the war in Russia.
