This file includes the following reports on North Africa: of indications of German Air Force (GAF) preparations for a possible operation on August 26; and a day report from the Panzer Army for August 18 giving the state of fuel stocks and listing Italian casualties from May 26 to July 31; on the Southern Russian Front: of operational orders for August 19, that the GAF are to carry out recces in the Caucasus-Caspian area, with the aim being to establish whether the Soviets are bringing reinforcements to Tiflis through Iran; of the 4th Air Fleet's instruction relating to the unloading of supply trains, on August 18; that the mopping up of the elbow of the Don is almost complete, with a bridgehead over the Don having been successfully carried out; and a report for August 16, that Army Group A elements thrust forward south and south west of Krasnodar, 20 km beyond the Kuban River; on Western Europe: reports of an Allied landing on the French coast in the Dieppe area, on August 19; and the Japanese ambassador in Hanoi reports a Chinese air raid on Haiphong on August 10.
