Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: of a protest by Rommel over allocations of air transport quotas between the German Air Force (GAF) and the Panzer Army, on August 13; that the 164th Infantry Division is being converted into a Light (Motorised) Division on August 15; and that a recce of the Qattara Depression was forbidden to avoid arousing Allied suspicions, on August 13; the Japanese minister in Sofia reports a German Admiral's remarks on the war in the Middle East and Russia, from August 12; the Italian ambassador in Tokyo reports Japanese scepticism over the India situation on August 14; and the Italian minister in Bangkok reports reactions to the Indian situation following the arrest of Gandhi, on August 12.
