Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: of a complaint by the Panzer Army about the time required to off-load a ship carrying most valuable cargo in Tobruk on August 8; Naval Headlines for August 9, that the only jetty in use in Tobruk was severely damaged in an air raid; the Italian consul in Lourenço Marques comments on the Portuguese minister's visit to colonies in Africa, on August 4; that the Japanese ambassador in Istanbul, anticipating German successes in the Near East, recommends the appointment of personnel to serve in Cairo, Baghdad, Beirut and other posts, on August 7; the Turkish ambassador in Vichy reports a Franco-German conflict over the dispatch of skilled French workers to Germany, on August 5; and Naval Headlines for August 10, covering the search for convoy PQ18 being continued on August 8-9.
