22 Jul 1942

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file contains a message from C to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) on the instructions of the Prime Minister (PM) (see 173); this file also contains a report on the Mediterranean: of a German Air Force (GAF) message on convoys going to Africa and air protection, on July 16; the PM asks the First Sea Lord (1SL) what the navy is doing; the 1SL's reply, with signals to and from the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) in the Mediterranean, suggests RAF action.
