Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: from the 3rd Panzer Army, that 500 officer replacements are urgently required from the reserve pool in Naples, on July 3; Naval Headlines, covering German, Italian and Spanish activity; a Turkish report from Cairo for the Turkish ambassador in Washington, of the Egyptian Prime Minister's views on the war situation, from July 4; from Tokyo to the Japanese ambassador in Berlin on July 1, on a secret Soviet/U.S. agreement regarding Japan; from the Japanese minister in Madrid on July 2, on Spanish intentions and their desire to acquire Gibraltar; on prospects for peace; and on relations with Portugal; from the Italian ambassador on Shanghai on the situation in China and the status of the conflict with Japan, on June 20; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, a summary of German activity on the Russian Front, on July 2; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, intelligence reports from North America, for July 3.
