Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: Naval Headlines; an Italian report from Istanbul on reactions to the fall of Tobruk; a Japanese report from Berlin on the German view of the Pacific situation, particularly the Japanese attack on the Aleutians, on June 23; a Japanese report from Lisbon on the state of British morale, as of June 24; the Japanese ambassador in Berlin relays a German request for Japanese naval action to prevent U.S. shipping supplying Allied forces via east Africa, on June 26; a Japanese report from Berne on the war on the Russian Front, on June 27; a Japanese report from Madrid on a meeting in Washington between Churchill and Roosevelt, on June 27; a Portuguese report from Ankara on reactions to the fall of Tobruk on June 26; a Portuguese report from Stockholm on the adverse reaction to British reverses in North Africa, on June 26; and a Japanese report from Berlin summarising the war situation following the fall of Tobruk, on June 26.
