Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the 15 Panzer Division is to attack Mersa Matruh, on June 25; of German Air Force (GAF) intentions for June 26; of a task for the 15th Panzer Division, on June 26; that the German 90th Light Division is to advance to the south-south west of Mersa Matruh, on June 26; that the battle headquarters of the Panzer Army are south-west of Mersa Matruh, on June 27; on Kesselring's orders for GAF support for an attack on Mersa Matruh, on June 26; of ceaseless RAF attacks on the 15th Panzer Division on the night of June 25-26; that the Panzer Army requests fighter protection against air attacks, on June 26; on North Africa: on the RAF's bombing of the Trieste Division on the night of June 25-26; on arrangements for a conference between Rommel, Kesselring and Cavellero on June 26; that Rommel wishes to speak to Kesselring before the conference, on June 26; that Cavallero is to arrive at Sidi Barrani on June 26; on an arrangement for the above conference members to land at Ghaniya, on June 26; that the Panzer Army requests ninety copies of the plans of El Alamein, on June 26; a GAF estimate of RAF aircraft strength, as of June 25; and of the locations of GAF units on captured airfields, on June 26; on the Mediterranean: that two GAF bomber units are to move from France to Sicily, on June 25; on the Southern Russian Front: a German ground forces report for June 25-26; from the Japanese minister in Lisbon, of Italian information on the Russian and North African fronts, on June 19; from the Japanese Foreign Minister in Tokyo, on French representations about Madagascar and fears about Japanese attacks on other colonies, on June 24; from the Japanese ambassador in Moscow, on a discussion with Molotov on the question of military bases for the U.S., on June 25; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid: intelligence on Churchill-Roosevelt talks on a second front, on June 25; and intelligence that the Allies are to drop second front leaflets on France.
