Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: that German Air Force (GAF) Africa are to undertake a large-scale operation with reduced forces; that the 10th Air Corps was ordered to ferry in all dive bombers from Crete, on May 26; that Italian troops newly arrived in Africa are deficient in training and weapons, but required for a special operation, on May 22; a German intelligence report that the British forces are expecting a German attack; that the Germans are short of motor transport in Benghazi, on May 25; on air reconnaissance of convoy PQ16, and preparations for bomb and torpedo attacks, on May 26-27; and Naval Headlines, covering a German secret service warning of the sailing of an Allied combined operation force, on May 18, noted by the First Sea Lord (ISL) as untrue.
