Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that priorities for the German Air Force's (GAF's) air transport to Africa include smoke and assault boat detachments, on May 21; on shipping problems, that Benghazi harbour is congested, and an assault boat detachment will not arrive before May 27; that a GAF Ju88 unit in Greece is to attack Gambut aerodrome on May 26; and of a query concerning Panzer Army map requirements, on May 25; on Greece: that Kesselring sends a secret telegram to the 10 Air Corps in Heraklion on May 25; on the German Navy: a naval report for May 25, covering a U.S. battleship being sunk off Brazil; on the Southern Russian Front: a GAF intermediate report for May 24; a GAF report on battle during May 24; a fragment of GAF operational orders for May 26; and a GAF report for May 25 on Soviet bombing, and that gas bombs were used; from the Italian ambassador in Madrid on rumours of an intended British landing in Spain, on May 22; from the Portuguese ambassador in London, that the British Parliament debates the war, on May 22; from the Turkish minister in Vichy, on a meeting of Laval with Goering, who demanded French measures and said that Germany had no interest in Italian territorial claims on France, on May 22; that Count de Chambrun was sent to Rome in an effort to improve Franco-Italian relations, on May 22; and from the Turkish minister in Madrid, that Mussolini's wish to occupy Corsica was resisted by Germany, on May 23.
