Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the Panzer Army request road and track maps, on May 23; a Panzer Army report for May 22; 1009/T31 to the Assistant Chief of Air Staff Intelligence (ACASI) with a query from the Prime Minister (PM) under 9579; that the German supply depot at Tripoli is to send gas masks to Benghazi, on May 21; on air transport for a move of German Air Force (GAF) night fighters to Crete, on May 23; on the move of ground personnel of a GAF night fighter unit, on May 23; a German Navy operations summary for May 22; on the Southern Russian Front: a GAF recce report for May 23; a fragment of a German report for May 23; and GAF operational orders for May 24-25; from the Japanese minister in Madrid on the Spanish Foreign Minister's views on the U.S., a possible Allied invasion of Turkey, Vichy France and domestic matters, on May 18; and from the Turkish ambassador in Vichy on Franco-German friction over Martinique, on May 21.
