Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the Germans are short of labour at the ports, on April 16; a German Air Force (GAF) report on British camouflaging of motor transport and tanks, from April 22; on Germany: that the GAF are increasing Flak defences in the Ruhr on April 18; Naval Headlines, covering Italian activity; from the Chinese chargé in Vichy on Vichy government changes and the withdrawal of the U.S. ambassador, on April 20; from the Italian ambassador in Tokyo on the U.S. air raid, on April 20; from the Japanese chargé in Vichy on changes in the French government, on April 12; from the Japanese minister in Lisbon on Portuguese fears of a British landing (see C/9246), on April 16; from the Japanese minister in Lisbon on the Portuguese reaction to the French governmental changes, on April 18; and from the Turkish ambassador in Tokyo on the effect of Japanese military production difficulties on strategy, on April 20.
