Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean and North Africa: on German Air Force (GAF) instructions that air convoys are to be given adequate fighter protection, on April 15; on the Central Russian Front: that the whole of GAF Group must be operating together by May 15; on the Russian fronts: of GAF air transport landing operations at Demjansk on April 19; on the Southern Russian Front: of the move of bomber units, on April 18; and that the GAF are to provide Flak defence for trains to Crimea, on April 15; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin on Japan's plans for a Greater East Asia Co-prosperity sphere and whether to attack the U.S.S.R., on April 6; on Japanese-Chilean relations, on April 11; from the Turkish ambassador in Vichy on Laval's views on an Axis offensive, on April 15; on changes in the French government; and on Laval being supported by Germany, on April 13; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid on the war situation, on April 15.
