Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Southern Russian Front: that the German Air Force (GAF) seek air defence equipment for the defence of bridges over the Dnieper on April 17; on the Central Russian Front: a fragmentary message on the establishment of a new German Army (GA) command, Fliegergruppe Z B V Ost; on the Northern Russian Front: that Goering is to be given a detailed report on ice and road conditions, on April 17; on the Southern Russian Front: that the GAF were informed of recognition markings for German ships in the Black Sea area, on April 17; from the Portugese minister in Stockholm on German assurances of Swedish independence, on April 15; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome on progress in North Africa and the Mediterranean, on April 18; on the attitudes of South American countries to the Axis, on April 11; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome on negotiations on a draft of an Axis declaration on India and Arabia, on April 15; and from the Turkish charg� in Chungking on the Chinese situation, on April 7.
