Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: on German Air Force (GAF) operations, reconnaissance and intentions in North Africa, for February 28; a report on GAF operations and intentions for February 28-March 1; a report on the transfer of a Ju88 unit from Greece to Sicily on March 1; on preparations of the GAF in north-west Europe for Operation Hanover on February 28-March 1, including intelligence that German minesweepers are to carry out Operation Hanover as soon as weather permits, from February 27; on the Russian Front: concerning the GAF 4th Air Fleet's aviation fuel allotment for March; and a communication from the Italian ambassador in Bucharest on a Hitler-Antonescu meeting, on February 25.
