A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following BONIFACE reports on North Africa and the Mediterranean: that the fuel situation in Tripoli has been improved on January 6; that the SS Aprilia and Neghelli were to transport heavy fighter formations personnel from Crete to Sicily on January 6; that there were rumours of a British operation against Crete being prepared in Port Said on January 6; and on nominations for a special course for dive bomber unit commanders to be held at Foggia. This file also includes the following BONIFACE reports on the Russian Front: that Soviet forces had landed on the west Crimean coast on January 5; that Soviet forces were pushing towards Saki in south-west Crimea on January 6; that two signal companies attached to the 11th Army were to resist the Soviet forces in south-west Crimea on January 5; that the 4th Air Fleet reports the destruction of Soviet forces in south-west Crimea by the 11th Army on January 7; that the 4th Air Corps was to begin attacks on Soviet shipping targets and on loadings in Caucasian harbours, particularly Novorossijsk, on January 7; on the intentions of the 4th Air Fleet for January 6-7: that the Soviet elements that had landed near Eupatoria had been destroyed, and preparations were to be made to attack the Soviets near Feodosiya and Yalta; and on the 8th Air Corps' operational orders for the night of January 6-7: that attacks in the Kalinin area and night reconnaissance flights were to include Soviet movements towards Rzhev. Also included is a BONIFACE report of a German intention to form a large reserve of horses in Romania and south Russia for the German Army from January 6.
