A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following BONIFACE reports from North Africa and the Mediterranean: that an Italian guard battalion was requested for the defence of Merduna by the German Air Force (GAF) on December 30; that the Panzer Group was unable to provide a guard because of the fuel shortage on December 31; that a GAF fighter unit returned from the Russian Front for service in Africa had been retained in Germany as of December 30; and a report of the photographic reconnaissance of the south-west coast of Malta on December 31. This file also includes BONIFACE reports from the Russian Front: on operational orders for the 4th Air Fleet for January 3, saying that the 11th Army was advancing against Soviet forces that had landed at Feodosiya; that the 6th Army was on the defensive on the northern wing, and the 4th Air Corps was to provide support; intelligence of the movement of reinforcements to Kharkov, which was to become an operational base; that the mining of Feodosiya harbour was to continue, and fighter support for the 17th Army was to come from Stalino; and that Ju88 aircraft were to be specially adapted for attacking Soviet locomotives from January 2.
