A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following BONIFACE reports on North Africa: that Italian aviation fuel was being carried into Benghazi by the submarine Micca on December 18; that the German Africa Corps HQ was at Agedabia on December 20; and that the Fliegerfuehrer Africa had arrived in Magrum on December 19 as fuel supplies were inadequate for all airborne operations and the supply of bombs was limited. The file also includes the following BONIFACE reports: that the Africa Corps and Panzer Group were moving into the Agedabia area with fighter protection, and that the British line of advance was developing along Mechili to Benghazi on December 20; that Kesselring had rejected shortage of fuel as a reason for inadequate fighter protection for Panzer Group Africa on December 19; that a blocking unit currently in Athens had been requested to hold the area to the east of Benghazi to enable the evacuation of valuable supplies as of December 20; that a Panzer Group had requested continuous air attacks on British forces threatening Maraua from December 20; of the fuel stocks at Magrum and Benina on December 20; and that shipping was directed to Tripoli as unloading was not possible at Benghazi.
