Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. The file includes the following reports: intelligence on German Air Force (GAF) aircraft supplies policy on December 2, which stated that precedence was to be given to supplying the Russian Front; and on Anti-Aircraft Corps I intentions on the central Russian Front for December 8-9; a fragmentary 4th Army report for December 3, noting withdrawal on the Moscow Front; a report of heavy losses suffered by German forces on December 6-7; and a Panzer 3rd Group report of heavy Soviet attacks on the Moscow Front on December 6. This file also contains intelligence on a night fighter unit to be stationed at Benina in North Africa on December 9; on supplies urgently needed for 2 GAF fighter groups, which arrived without ammunition on December 9; a report that the GAF have no aviation fuel at Tripoli and that deliveries are urgent from December 9; intelligence that the Germans had salvaged anti-aircraft ammunition from a ship sunk in Benghazi harbour on December 9; a GAF reconnaissance report for December 8-9; a GAF operations and reconnaissance report from December 9; a report that the GAF were too busy with land targets to attack sea targets from December 9; a GAF order for immediate supplies for Benghazi on December 9; a GAF report on success and the need for more armour piercing shells from December 2 on which the Prime Minister (PM) asked the Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) for a report; a GAF request for the immediate shipment of aviation fuel to maintain air transportation to Africa from Greece and Crete on December 9; and the minutes of the acting CIGS of December 4 and 9 in response. This file also includes a message from the Turkish ambassador in Kuibyshev on the appointment of Sir Stafford Cripps to the Ministry of Arms and Munitions from December 6; a report from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin on the future of French Indo-China from December 3; intelligence from the Japanese consul in Singapore on British defence measures and the arrival of troops and equipment on December 1; a report from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara on the German and Italian reaction to Lease-Lend for Turkey on December 6; and a note from the Turkish ambassador in Berlin on U.S. views on the possibility of war with Germany and Italy on December 8.
