Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: that further German Air Force (GAF) fighter aircraft are to be delivered as soon as possible from December 5; that the GAF have no air transport to ferry troops to Derna on December 4; and that aircraft Group Jg53, withdrawn from the U.S.S.R., was to fly from Italy on December 6; a GAF reconnaissance report from December 6; a GAF report on an air attack on Tobruk on December 5; that the GAF Commander in Chief (C-in-C) South orders attacks on Tobruk shipping from December 6; reports on further GAF fighter units being moved to Africa on December 6; a GAF report on air reconnaissance of December 3; on GAF reconnaissance intentions for December 7; and a GAF report that Italian Air Force reconnaissance had sighted warships and steamers on December 6; on the Moscow Front: a German ground forces report of December 4; a German ground forces report and German intentions for the Tula area from December 4; a German ground forces report of December 4 reporting that an attack had been postponed; a German 4th Army report of December 5; a fragmentary German report for December 5; and intelligence that the 2nd Army was seeking GAF fighter support against Soviet air attacks on December 5; on the Russian front: intelligence that the Germans were gathering locomotives at Przemysl in Poland for Army Directorate South on December 2-3; a partial 2nd Army report of December 4; intelligence that the GAF Supply and Admin Kiev were interested in using a French transport firm from December 5; on GAF intentions for December 6; and a report that the GAF was seeking extra trains to move units forward on December 5; on the Black Sea: a report of December 5 on GAF opposition to the transfer of a seaplane unit to the Black Sea because of freezing up, suggesting Greece, which the Navy required because of sinkings by submarines; and a report on anti-aircraft units operating on ships from December 5. This file also contains a message to the Vichy ambassador in Washington with instructions to protest against U.S. help for Free French Forces on November 28; messages from the Japanese ambassador in Rome on contact with an Indian dissident party from December 2; from the Turkish ambassador in Teheran on a conversation with Sikorski en route to Russia on December 2; from the Turkish consul in Batumi on the local situation, sent from Kuibyshev on December 3; from the Turkish ambassador on the Moscow situation on December 4; a fragmentary report from the Turkish ambassador in Berlin on Franco-German negotiations on December 5; and a report on German police activity in Eastern Europe in November.
