Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: the British Military Mission in Moscow was alerted to a German high level conference at Orsha on November 8; a situation report of the Eastern Front for November 9, describing attacks on Sevastopol and Kerch being continued, weak Soviet resistance east of Kursk, and artillery and reconnaissance activity in front of Leningrad; that the Italian signals intelligence service have identified a British tank regiment in the Western Desert on November 10; that Panzer Group Africa issued a qualified leave suspension order from November 10; a situation report from the 10th Air Corps for November 10, covering units of British naval forces at sea, the convoy Bosforo at sea, and three (Italian) destroyers being at sea between Sicily and Benghazi; a report on Serbia, that a train was derailed and 130 hostages were shot as reprisal; and on Croatia, describing guerrilla activities around Tuzla and Sarajevo where German and Croatian troops are mopping up; Naval Headlines, covering activities of U-boats in the Atlantic, the Italian merchant ships Savona and Bosforo being damaged in an attack by bombers north of Benghazi, and the German Steamship Ithacca being sunk by torpedo off Milos; the Italian ambassador in Tokyo reports on U.S.-Japanese negotiations on November 6; the Japanese ambassador in Berlin reports on the war situation on November 4; and the Romanian chargé in Washington reports on a U.S. diplomatic initiative for the Vatican to detach Spain and Italy from Germany, on October 21.
