Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: of Goering's personal instruction for the dispersal of German motor transport vehicles in Libya to reduce targets, on November 7; that fuel and ammunition dumps in Libya are to be dispersed to minimise losses, on November 7; that eighteen sailing vessels were sunk in Benghazi harbour as the result of RAF raids on November 5-6; that British agents were captured near Derna on November 5; that transport space is to be made available for anti-tank guns urgently needed in North Africa: as detailed in a report from the 10th Air Corps on November 7; of a German intelligence assessment of British services in Africa on November 5; of differences between German and Italian forces over anti-aircraft defences of Benghazi, on November 5; a communiqué from the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) Armed Forces South East Europe reports the arrest of 169 hostages in Belgrade, various operations against insurgents, and that two more transports of the 5th Mountain Division left Salonica for Germany on November 5; that three trains carrying the 5th Mountain Division were held up at the Bulgarian frontier because of lack of locomotives on November 6; that Bulgarian ports have been required by the Germans to be made clear for German forces transport, from November 3; that the 10th Air Corps was instructed to concentrate anti-submarine activities to the Aegean and off Benghazi harbour, on November 7; and the Naval Headlines, covering U-boats off Gibraltar failing to make contact with an expected convoy; that the Admiral Scheer, still in the Baltic, was allocated a berth in Swinemuende on November 7; that a 9-knot convoy comprising the Capo Arma and Capo Faro, escorted by the Pegaso, is due to leave Benghazi for Brindisi on November 9; that the Spezia and Cadamosto, escorted by the Centauro, is due to leave Tripoli for Benghazi on November 8; that the Zippitelli and the auxiliary sailing vessel Maria Brono were sunk by British aircraft; and a shortage of foodstuffs in Tripoli.
