Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: that a lack of replacement propellers is causing a reduced state of readiness of two dive bomber units in Africa, on November 2; a report of an RAF bombing raid on Benghazi, on November 2; that the 10th Air Corps is urging the Italians to set up an adequate aircraft reporting service in liaison with German Air Force (GAF) Africa, in light of RAF successes, on November 2; a report of an RAF raid on Derna, on November 2; that German aircraft have been withdrawn from Greece for re-equipment urgently needed to support the projects of the Panzer Group, Africa, from November 2; a report of an RAF raid on Benghazi, on November 1, and GAF coastal convoy duties; that the 10th Air Corps' intentions for November 3 include the escort of a special ship, air reconnaissances and preparations for attacks on shipping; that air cover was given to the convoy Iseo en route from Benghazi to Brindisi, on November 3; that information was requested about German aircraft seen flying over Adrianople, on October 29; that the Japanese ambassador in Ankara reports the former Iraqi premier considering a come-back with German help and giving British military dispositions in the Middle East, on October 6; and the Japanese minister in Pretoria reports a conversation with the former South African Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, on October 31.
