This file includes the following reports: a 1st Panzer Army evening report, from October 20, of slow progress in the face of determined Soviet resistance in the Krinka, Stalino, and Taganrog areas; an 11th Air Corps signal from October 12 on the intention to withdraw the 7th Air Division from the Leningrad sector; that on October 20 the Panzer Army is attacking Rostov; a signal from October 9 that a long-range bomber unit is moving from Finland to Holland; and the Naval Headlines, covering U-boat activities in the Atlantic, off Gibraltar and in the Mediterranean; reports of various Italian convoys in the Mediterranean; and an Italian Y service report on the RN fleet in Alexandria. This file also includes an appreciation of the war in Europe and the implications for Japan from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, from October 11; a report on Spain summarising their internal situation by the Turkish minister in Madrid, from October 18; and a report that Spanish ships are being used for transporting German Air Force (GAF) cargoes from Brindisi to [Greece], from October 18.
