This file includes the following reports: that a Soviet attack on Kalinin was repulsed; that a shortage of fuel is restricting German air operations in Taganrog on October 19; of the 2nd Air Fleet operational orders for October 20 including intentions to advance towards Bezhetsk; that shipping traffic between Italy and Tripoli is to be resumed on October 19 following its suspension on October 18; that the German Air Force (GAF) in Cyrenaica is concerned over a shortage of ammunition, ordnance and other supplies and may use two submarines to provide a shuttle service, from October 19; that the GAF is querying the possibility of bombs being ferried in by air, on October 19; that the CIC Africa Corps arrived back in Derna from Greece, on October 19; that the Italian submarine Cagni is overdue in Bardia on October 19; that a second supply submarine is to remain off-shore to avoid a possible collision; and the Naval Headlines, covering U-boats preparing for a convoy to leave Gibraltar; U-boats being quizzed about the sinking of the U.S. destroyer Kerney; and survivors of the convoy Caterina including the Marin Sanudo, Paolina, and Amba Avadam, escorted by the Da Recco, Folgore, and Usodimare are due to leave Tripoli for Naples on October 20. This file also includes reports of the views of the German ambassador in Rome on possible Japanese entry into the war against Russia, from October 16; of the Japanese chargé in London sending his appreciation of the war situation on October 16; and of the Chilean ambassador in Berlin summarising the war situation as seen in Germany, on October 17.
