12 Oct 1941

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: on the Mediterranean: until October 14 German and Italian aircraft are not to report U-boats, only British submarines; and German gliders are to transport anti-tank guns from Greece to Derna; and on North Africa: the Germans need air transport for 1,500 casualties from Africa. This file also contains a Naval Headlines report covering German, Italian naval and Spanish Eastern Front activity. On the Eastern Front, Himmler is to visit German 'colonies' in the southern area; and executions are not to be reported by wireless; from the Chinese Foreign Office to the ambassador in London, a military situation report; and the Japanese ambassador in Washington tells Tokyo that the U.S. continues aid to the Soviet Union and Britain to crush Germany and U.S.-Japanese war is regarded as inevitable.
