Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: of air operations over the Panzer spearhead on the Moscow Front; of German units being released for an attack on Crimea; of anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) forces being sent to Sulina, north of the Danube; of German Air Force (GAF) being units moved to Orel; of the position of the 41st and 6th Army Corps on the Moscow Front; of support for the 5th and 8th Army Corps in an attack on and across the Dnieper, in the Wjasma area; of the Soviets withdrawing on the Orel-Krasnograd (Ukraine) general sector; on the battle HQ of Flakkorps 1 at Dimitrovsk, 60 miles south west of Orel; on air operations, with a GAF unit being transferred to the Marinpol area. This file also includes the following reports on North Africa: that AAA reinforcements are to be sent; of supplies of anti-aircraft (AA) ammunition being urgently required at Tripoli and Benghazi; of anti-tank guns being transported by flying boat from the Przaeus; on preparations on hill 656 [Cyrene] for radio operations; on activities in Libya in connection with hill 656 suggesting German preparations for the use of wireless directional beams; on the air situation in North Africa; a report from Italian forces in Benghazi reporting to Rome the arrival of SS Junak and proposing that Day Delta be fixed for October 11; reporting to the Italian Admiralty that conditions for Operation B were favourable and that confirmation of Day D was still awaited from Rome; informing the Italian Admiralty that preparations were being made to land fuel by night at the Bay of Ain el Gazala; that the SS Zenn was torpedoed off Lampadusa and Italian air support is being sent; a report from Crete informing the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces in Berlin that the fate of MacNab, the British military attaché in Crete, could not be established; and that supplies for the GAF in Greece were to be handled by GAF liaison staff in Rome instead of by the GAF mission in Roumania.
