This file includes the following reports: intelligence on the military situation for October 5, with German forces advancing in the central sector of the Russian Front, and the 56th Army Corps facing strong Soviet attacks and heavy artillery fire; on the 6th Panzer Division being held by superior Soviet forces; on the 7th Panzer Division advancing supported by the 6th Panzer Division; on fuel shortages being overcome by air drops, with the roads bad; on 5th Army Corps advances meeting stubborn resistance; on large German flak forces operating with Panzer Divisions in the advance on Moscow; on dispositions in the drive towards the Sea of Azov on October 7; a situation report for October 5, with the Germans advancing towards the western and northern shores of the Sea of Azov and Soviet forces embarking at Berdyansk heading eastward; on the eastward retreat of the main body of Soviet forces; and a report by the Irish minister in Rome about Italian internal shortages of food and other commodities from October 2. The file also contains Naval Headlines report 99, covering U-boat contacts with a British convoy; the arrival of all ships of Italian Convoy C in Tripoli on October 5 except the Rialto, with the destroyer escorts Da Noli, Usodimare, Euro, Pessagno, Gioberti and Calliope; a report that the Amsterdam and Perla are due to leave Tripoli for Naples when their repairs are completed, and the Savona is due to leave Benghazi for Brindisi on October 8; and a report that the Junak, Pomona, Capo Arma and Tinos are due in Benghazi with coal, food and fuel oil.
