Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: intelligence on Soviet resistance against the 52nd and 55th Army Corps west of Kharkov; a situation report from the 1st Panzer Group east of Dniepropetrovsk; the locations of the points reached by elements of the 1st Panzer Group on October 3 east and north east of Dniepropetrovsk; reports from Group Von Schwedler of Soviet armoured attacks on October 3; reports that the spearhead of the 4th Panzer Division reached Orel on October 3; reinforcement of the German Air Force (GAF) flak regiment in North Africa on October 3; on a German intelligence appreciation of British dispositions in North Africa; on references to German warships in the Mediterranean made in a High Command Communiqué queried on October 3; on the possibility that U-boats are acting as supply vessels in the Mediterranean; on evasion tactics suggested for Italian vessels leaving Benghazi on October 3; on the 10th Air Corps' confirmation of their intention to strengthen the air protection for convoys approaching Africa on October 1; a message informing the 10th Air Corps that all Italian Savoia transport aircraft were engaged in transporting troops on October 1; on the embarkation of the staff of Officer Commanding (OC) Air Component Libya at Naples being postponed for ten days on October 4; on rations and ammunition expended in the Derna area over a 10-day period to September 21, and the stocks in hand; on a request from the Italian Air Force in the Aegean urgently seeking photographs of Palestine on October 4; an Italian naval HQ report that HMS Ark Royal arrived at Gibraltar with list to port; of the assignment of wireless telegraphy frequencies for Libya, Algiers and Marseilles for aircraft security, as requested of the 10th Air Corps Senior Signals Officer on October 1; a German police report from the Russian Front of 12 September recording the shooting of 430 partisans; and a report from the Japanese ambassador in Washington that Joachim von Ribbentrop has misjudged the Soviet response to the German attack on Russia.
