This file includes the following correspondence: intelligence on an important convoy - possibly comprising Ankara, Reichenfels, Bainsizza, Giulia, Nirvo and Veniero - to leave Naples on October 2 with an air escort; the delayed return of units in Panzer Group Africa because of the stoppage of transport; a signal for Hermann Goering from the 10th Air Corps giving their reasons for not having attacked the Malta convoy on September 29; a report from the Italian ambassador in Washington on U.S.-Japanese relations from September 28; a report from the Turkish ambassador in Moscow on the war situation, and commenting on the U.K.-U.S.-Soviet relationship from September 27; an appraisal of the war situation by the U.S. minister in Berne from October 2; an urgent telegram to the 10th Air Corps on the German/Italian division of responsibilities in the air-defence and offence roles; and a note from the Prime Minister (PM) to the First Sea Lord (ISL) and the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), and their replies.
