Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: of movement orders sent on September 28 indicating paratroopers were being flown into the Leningrad area; of orders for the Spanish Blue Division to entrain at Vitebsk for the Northern Front; a situation report on the Ukraine Front giving the locations of major units and reporting that the 13th and 14th Panzer Divisions were under violent attack, and that 13,000 prisoners had been taken; a report that the Italian Admiralty declared September 29 to be Day D, and that Tripoli and Benghazi were both concerned; and a report that Day D was postponed because of bad weather. This file also contains Naval Headlines report 91, reporting that U-boats claimed successes against a home-bound Gibraltar convoy; that Italian naval forces were ordered to return to base on September 28; the possibility that Operation B was to be carried out on September 29; that the submarine Onice and destroyers Centauro and Partenope sailed for Benghazi in connection with the operation; and that the Benghazi outer-mole was breached when Prospero was hit.
