Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: from the Spanish military attaché in Berlin that there has been no news from, nor contact with, Spanish forces attached to the German 9th Army near Minsk for three weeks as of September 22; that there has been some German progress in the Perekop Isthmus; that the 30th Army Corps and 3rd Romanian Army are facing strong Soviet attacks with the Romanians sustaining heavy losses; that the German 1st Parachute Regiment is to arrive in Pleskau near Leningrad from September 27 with a strength of 1,200; that the operational orders of the 5th Air Corps are to protect the 17th Army spearhead at Krasnograd-Poltava; that a situation report from the 5th Brigade states that Rodionovka and Akimovka are in Russian hands and there is strong Soviet air activity; that there are possible changes to the dispositions of the 2nd Air Corps, Panzer Groups 2 and 4, and the 1st Air Corps in the central sector of the Russian Front; that British naval units have been sighted in the western Mediterranean by Italian aircraft; that in North Africa a coastal convoy including the tanker Labor, steamship Pertusola and auxiliary vessels Maria Bruna and Esperia carrying military and air supplies is due to leave Tripoli for Benghazi on September 28; that there was a British air raid on Benghazi on September 26; that the German Air Force (GAF) attacked a British convoy; a report on damage caused during a British raid on Benghazi on September 24; that there are reports of raids on Bardia and Tripoli on September 24; that the Italian Admiralty has informed naval HQs at Benghazi and Tripoli that an unnamed operation has been postponed; that a Royal Naval force from Gibraltar including HMS Nelson, HMS Rodney, an aircraft carrier and other ships was in the western Mediterranean going eastward; that troop transports are reported to be at Gibraltar preparing for action against Pantelleria; that the German police in Bialystok urgently needed four hundred horses before the beginning of winter; and that the Japanese chargé in London reports that Turkey has given way to German threats and undertaken to supply Germany with chrome.
