Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: on the locations of battle HQs on the Ukrainian Front, and the need to split the ring around Kiev into two pockets; on German Air Force (GAF) insistence on German protection for convoys for Panzer Group Africa, since losses under Italian protection amounted to 50%, with Neptuna, Oceania and Col di Lana all sunk; a report of U-boat activities in the North Atlantic and to the west of Ireland, with the U-boats southeast of Cape Farewell reminded of the regulations regarding U.S. ships; a report that three U-boats were presumed lost following an attack on convoy SC42; a report that the battleship Tirpitz was to exercise with the cruiser Koeln and to carry out torpedo firing trials on October 6 and 7; a report that the destroyer Pessagno arrived in Tripoli with 2000 survivors from Oceania and that Gioberti picked up 600 from Neptuna; a report that the destroyer Perseo was detailed to escort SS Sabbia, due to be towed from Tripoli to Palermo; a report that the SS Ascianghi which sailed with the Pietrino convoy had arrived at Tripoli on September 18; and a report that the tanker Tinos left Benghazi on September 18, probably for Brindisi.
