A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: a situation report for the area east of Kiev on September 14, during which a Soviet counter-attack was beaten off with severe losses, and after which the 24th Panzer Corps, the SS Reich Division, the 4th Panzer Division, the 3rd Panzer Division and the 10th Motorised Division were all advancing; a report that the 1st Panzer Group was advancing north to join with the 2nd Panzer Group near Lokhvitsa; a report that the 17th Army was advancing to the north, the 6th Army was fighting across its whole front against fierce opposition, the 4th Air Corps was ordered to support the advance to the south east of the 11th Army, and the 5th Air Corps was attacking the encircled enemy on September 14; a report that the Soviets were retreating north and northeast, still fighting but having lost many prisoners in Mirogorod on September 14; a report that Odessa was raided with bombs and mines by aircraft of the 4th Air Corps; and a report that ten Italian JU87 aircraft had gone astray during a joint operation against the town of Habata. This file also contains a Naval Headlines report stating that U-boats made contact with a convoy on September 12; U-boats were operating off the Brazilian coast; a fast Italian convoy, including SS Vulcania, SS Neptunia and SS Oceania plus 5 destroyers was expected to sail from Taranto to Tripoli on September 16; that MV Pisani, MV Veniero and MV Rialto were expected to arrive at Naples from Tripoli on September 15; that SS Capo d'Urso and SS Petrarca sailed from Brindisi on September 14; that the British Force had returned to Gibraltar, but without Ark Royal; and that 'Untrustworthy elements' were to be moved from North Africa to Italy in home-bound convoys.
