Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: on the introduction of HE177, HS129 and DO217 aircraft into operational service with the 4th Air Corps on September 8; reports from the 2nd Air Fleet of advances in Ukraine by the 3rd Panzer Division, and requests for continuous information on the ground situation; the German Air Force (GAF) daily report for September 12; on the bombing of Romanian territory by the Soviets, and attacks by Romanian aircraft south of Odessa; on JU 87 Stuka units carring out armed reconnaissance on instructions from 'Battle Unit Hagen'; on the movement of a Stuka unit to Konotop to provide support for the 47th Panzer Corps; reports that the 24th Panzer Corps and 47th Panzer Corps were under Soviet bombing attacks on September 13; requests for fighter aircraft from Konotop to protect Stuka bombers and patrol over the 24th Army Corps; reports from the 4th Air Corps on the German frontline at a bridgehead north of Kremenchug; on 10th Air Corps operational intentions for September 13, including reconaissance flights, convoy escort duties, preparation for a night attack on harbour installations at Suez and Port Tewfik, and a special operation in the Suez Roadstead in collaboration with Flieger Fuehrer Afrika; instructions to the Italian submarine Corridoni to leave Taranto on September 9 for Bardia, possibly carrying supplies; a report that the Italian signals service believes the Alexandria squadron may have sailed on September 11; a report by Italian recce aircraft of the sighting of the half-submerged steamer Oriani; a report of a steamer carrying an anti-aircraft battery being sunk on September 12 in a bombing attack; a report by the Italian minister in Sofia of a meeting with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister on the situation in Turkey, dependent on the outcome of the German campaign against Russia; and a report from the Turkish minister in Buenos Aires of the opinion of a former Argentine Minister of Finance that everyone in America is in favour of help for Britain.
